As this is my first blog with One Property Recruitment, I just wanted to discuss working with OPR and how it really is working in the sector. Behind the scenes it can get quite ugly and it’s not always the pretty picture you all see!
It’s always difficult being the new starter within a company, particularly with a company such as OPR where they are established and have such a huge personality! I think it’s important to remember that we’ve all been the ‘new girl or boy’ at some stage in our lives. For me, I am a perfectionist down to the last detail and if I don’t get something right, I beat myself up. Over the last couple of months this is something I have learnt to manage due to the support of Zoe & the team. We have a great support network at OPR and everyone is willing to get stuck in and lift each other when needed.
Since starting, I have noticed there is a real stigma for recruiters in the industry, and in honesty I do understand it, as there are many that have had negative experiences with poor recruitment agencies and bad practice. But at OPR bad practice is just not accepted; we pride ourselves on the integrity with our candidates and clients, we are a real personable team and when communicating with us, there is a personable element which I think makes the experience enjoyable and in doing so we build up the best relationships!
As wonderful as recruitment can be, there are many highs and lows which not many see from the outside world. I had a potential client recently that wouldn’t work with me because the view was ‘we steal’ from other companies, but that’s what recruitment isn’t! What it actually is, is a headhunt for the right candidate that matches the work ethos and culture to ensure sustainability. Anyone can put out a job advert, and the reality is the candidates we headhunt may very well apply to the same job role if they are available! But I guess my point is anyone can place a job advert, but it is not necessarily going to bring you the right calibre of candidate, nor the correct experience.
Although recruitment may look easy for those looking in, it really isn’t! It takes a certain type of personality and pure tenacity to ensure the candidates/clients are both happy with the result. It is a sales role through and through, it isn’t easy picking up roles, it takes determination to build healthy relationships with clients through many conversations. It’s lucky if you pick up a role on the first conversation, but with focus and the right conversations, it does become easier and I think because we really do listen to what the client needs to fulfil a role at OPR, we are able to get the right candidates in front of them.
However, there are also many highs! Personally, I have had some negative working experiences and it really does affect how you perform in your role. I have never really believed in myself, or what I can achieve, but since being at OPR I have gone from strength to strength and built up the most confidence that I have had in the workplace for a long time as a result of the support from the team and a wonderful MD that only wants the best for us! I feel a real sense of job satisfaction when I am able to tell a candidate they have got the job offer they have worked so hard for and it’s that point when you realise that this is why the long hours, the blood sweat and tears have really been worth it!
From our very first conversation Andrew knew exactly the kind of role I was looking for, I didn’t have to go through job role after job role asking him to go back to the drawing board, there was an immediate understanding. During the recruitment process, Andrew was supportive and gave me all the tips and confidence I needed to sell myself during the interview stages. Once I was offered the job, the contract was explained to me in full and the process of negotiation and finalising was very easy thanks to Andrews reactive working and Client relationship management. A big thank you to Andrew for placing me in a role I am able to be excited about again, I now love my job finally.
