      Let’s be honest, recruiters often have the reputation of being short-term thinkers, usually with closing a deal at any cost the top of their list. That needs to change. More now than ever we need to be here to support businesses of every size and make sure we are doing the job properly, but also protecting businesses. Is it fair that recruiters can place someone for a fee then 3 months later walk away without offering you anything back? The answer is no. That also needs to change. The fact is, we can get it wrong sometimes and things do not always work out, but that doesn’t mean we should benefit and leave our clients paying a recruiter again to find a replacement.

      If the industry offered a free replacement for 6 months as standard, the quality of service would improve tenfold. Recruiters would be hesitant to send people they have doubts about and would complete more thorough references before submitting them to positions. If recruiters thought they had a liability for 6 months, I have no doubt they would ask more questions of candidates and think outside of the box. We need to go beyond the relevant career experience when getting the fit right for our clients. We also need to consider the following;

      • Culture fit- This is so often missed when submitting candidates for a role. Firstly, recruiters must take time to understand your company and office culture. The first step is to visit the office and appreciate the set up/layout, making note of the atmosphere and energy. Secondly, we must ask the right questions about what is important to you and then ask the candidates the same question. There is zero point in submitting a candidate who wants to work in isolation if you are looking for a real team player.
      • More examples please! I have heard time and time again assumptions being made when it comes to candidates. ‘Oh they are a Block Manager they must have Section 20 experience’. NO- they may not, ask for more examples about daily duties and look for evidence of experience.
      • Its not just about a CV. We also submit an additional experience checklist. This explores questions around culture and goes beyond the CV, helping you to ascertain if a candidate is worth meeting.
